Carterville-William Whitehead, 92, passed away at 1:46 am on Thursday, May 08, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
William was born on March 5, 1922 in Spillertown to John “Dolph” and Sadie (Stroud) Whitehead. He married Ruby L. Presley; she preceded him in death on August 18, 1972. He later married Lucille Howell and she survives of Carterville.
William served in WWII in the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion and was a retired coal miner. He was a longtime member of Spillertown Baptist Church and a member of the UMWA. William enjoyed riding horses and spending time with his family and his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; son, Jerry Whitehead; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1pm in Spillertown Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Shea officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 11am-1pm at the church. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
