Bill “Mac” McCabe MARION-Bill “Mac” McCabe, 77, of Marion passed away at 8:00 AM, Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion with the Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147 Ritual Team officiating. Blue Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to TIP Hospice; envelopes are available at the funeral home, or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. McCabe was born on September 17, 1928 in West Frankfort, Illinois to William Leon and Helen (Boomhower) McCabe. He married Mary Etta Krantz on June 30, 1979 in Marion. Survivors include his wife, Mary Etta of Marion; son, Chris McCabe of Carterville; daughter, Cindy Roe of Carterville; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tia McCabe of Chester; four granddaughters; one grandson; one great granddaughter; step-daughter and her husband, Debbie and Richard Hope of Marion; step-sons and their wives, Scott and Nancy Reynolds of O’Fallon and Jerry and Fran Butler of Columbia, South Carolina; five step grandsons; two step-granddaughters; two step-great grandsons; and cousins, Jim and Peg Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. McCabe was of the Baptist faith. He was a self employed concrete finisher for 30 years. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne attached to the 82nd. He was a lifetime member of the Marion VFW Post 1301, lifetime member of the Marion Elks, and a member of the Plaster and Cement Finishers Local 143. He was an avid Bass Fisherman winning the Bass Master of the Year in 1972 and the Governors Trophy.
