William H. Halbin
JOHNSTON CITY-William H. Halbin, 94, of Johnston City passed away at 7:25 P.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Eulogy by Bob Nolen. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home. His wishes were to be cremated and buried next to his wife at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Mr. Halbin was born July 10, 1913 in Centralia, Illinois to Lee and Hazel (Hindman) Halbin; was raised later in life by his father and step-mother, Namathe Halbin. He married Elizabeth Crenshaw, they were married 55 years before her death on December 8, 1993.
Survivors include caregivers and special friends, Kressie and Connie McNew of Marion; best buddies, T. J. Barthelman, Robin and Corey Ward, Renea and Randel McNeely, and Kaylee and Kara McNeely; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Addie Halbin of Kansas City; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Halbin; half-sisters, Sue Clarida, Jo Ann Smail and Lottie Smail; sister-in-law, Jean Halbin; and special cousin, Patsy Lowes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; step-mother; brothers, Lee, Bud and Robert; and sister, Nadine.
Mr. Halbin was a member of the Christian Covenant Church in Carterville. He retired from the coal mines and Marion Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed life by working on his farm, planting trees and gardening. He was also a very good carpenter. He loved people and as long as someone would listen he could tell one story after another.
