William George Palmer

William George Palmer MARION-William George Palmer, 81, of Marion formerly of Goreville passed away at 10:41 AM, Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Reverend Arnold Arms officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Palmer was born March 6, 1926 in Simpson, Illinois to William and Sarah May (Robinson) Palmer. He married Reavis J. Johnson; she preceded him in death. He later married Marlene Barr and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, George R. and Lorraine Palmer of Humboldt, Tennessee; son, David Palmer of Goreville; grandchildren, Scott Palmer, Wendy Parsons and Cindy Adkisson; five great grandchildren; sister, Wilma Mizell of Simpson; step-sons, Jim Schram, Danny Kline, Sam Pearson and Charles Pearson;and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Reavis; and sister, Mildred Mizell. Mr. Palmer was formerly employed at Southern Illinois Stone for many years. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He was a 52 year member of Operating Engineers local 318. He was a member of the American Legion Post 147. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
