MARION-William F. “Maverick” Heffner, Sr., 68, of Marion passed away at 12:10 AM, Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the church. Blue Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Military rites will be held at the church by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to the Marion Ministerial Alliance; envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mr. Heffner was born on May 20, 1938 in Troy, New York to Fred and Bessie (Abbott) Heffner. He married Judith Ostergreen on July 31, 1982 in Wauconda, Illinois; together they shared 24 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Judith of Marion; his children, Robert Heffner, William Heffner, Jr., Darci Heffner and Donna Heffner; step-children, Daniel and Audrey Shepit, Debra and David Gooden and Dawn and Tim Davis; thirteen grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Joyce Heffner, Thomas and Marge Heffner and Dennis and Debbie Heffner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Heffner was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. He served his country with the United States Army Green Berets during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marion American Legion Post 147. He loved the outdoors.
