William Eugene "Bill" Campbell, age 84, of Marion, Illinois was carried home by our Heavenly Father, on Sunday, October 9, 2022. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the V.A. Nursing Home in Marion, Illinois.
William was born on January 2, 1938 in Alton, Illinois. He married Frankie Paulette (Harrell) Campbell, of New Burnside, Illinois, on October 21, 1957. Together, they shared almost 65 years of marriage. He was the son of Leland Barney and Nellie Lucille (Richardson) Campbell.
Bill was a devoted husband and father who traveled the world with his wife Paulette and their four children by his side, in the United States Air Force; William Scott Campbell, LaRhonda (Keith) Beasley of Marion, IL, Starla (Charles) Price of Grantsburg, IL, and is preceded in death by his youngest son, Russell Alan Campbell, of Marion; Grandchildren Raegan Nicole Campbell, Kristin (Justin) Brooks, Holly (Aaron) Newlin, Crystal (Aaron) Tanner, Lacey (Justin) Peldo; Great-Grandchildren Jaydin and Jaxin Brooks, Grant and Drew Newlin, Carsyn and Cainyn Peldo, Peyton and Paislee Tanner, and Jayme Brown; Special Nephews and Niece including Doug Cross of Marion; Sandy (Robby) Herpel of Eldorado; DeWayne Vetter, Mike Vetter, Glenn Vetter, Dennis Vetter, and Joe Vetter along with many other special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and son Russell Alan Campbell, he was preceded in death by two sisters Ellen Branham Brooks and Nellie Gunter; brother Harry James Campbell; and nephews Billy Beaumont and Jeff Cross.
He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for over twenty years. After retiring from the military, he finished his working career as an insurance agent. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion, and was a Sunday school teacher. He was the pillar of the family.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Rev. Darrell Ford officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Military rites will be presented graveside by the Marion VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
