Wendell L. Hilliard MARION-Wendell L. Hilliard, 82, of Marion passed away at 4:15 PM, Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Robbie Chitwood officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant “Shed” Cemetery in Marion Wendell was born July 7, 1927 in Marion to Sneed and Arta (Lanningham) Hilliard. He married Zilphia M. Lannom; she preceded him in death on June 3, 1997. Survivors include daughter, Jacquelyn Corder of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Lee and Susan Hilliard of Marion; grandchildren, Steven Lee Hilliard, Stacy and Richard Williams and Courtney and Cory Oliver; great grandchildren, Kelsie Williams, Levi Williams and Hailey Hilliard; step-great grandchild, Camron Bond; and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Guy Brown of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Gerald and Noel Hilliard. Wendell worked as a coal miner, retiring after 41 years, after retiring he became a farmer and raised cattle. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and the Marion American Legion.
