Vertis M. Vaughn MARION–Vertis M. Vaughn, 75, of Marion passed away at 3:27 PM, Friday, April 10, 2009 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church in Creal Springs with Reverend Howard McDannel and Reverend Alan Summers officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Blue Funeral home in Marion and from 11:00 AM to the time of the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery in Creal Springs. Memorials may be made to Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Vaughn was born on October 1, 1933 in Williamson County to Alden and Mildred (Deaton) McDannel. She married Vernon Vaughn on March 30, 1952 in Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church they shared 57 years together. Survivors include her husband Vernon of Marion; son and daughter-in-law Larry & Pixie Vaughn of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Roger Wilburn of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Adam & Tiffany Vaughn, Heather Vaughn, Nathan Wilburn, Nick Wilburn; great-grandchildren, Preston & Kaylee; sister, Shirley & Ralph Emery of Marion; sister-in-law, Fran (McDannel)Spiller; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank McDannel. Mrs. Vaughn was a lifelong member of Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church where she played the piano for over 50 years. She was also the pianist for the gospel group the “Family Heirs”; she was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She was the former owner & operator of Taylor Insurance Agency in Creal Springs. She was known for her cooking and gardening. She will be missed by all who knew her.
