Vernell “Dick” Nicholes Krumrey, 101, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 7:56 pm in his home surrounded by his family. Dick was born on June 24, 1923, in Williamson County to John and Ella (Fluck) Krumrey. In 1948, he married Mildred Reid in Williamson County. Mildred and Dick went on to have a son, Darryll Krumrey, later that year. Dick was a dairy farmer from 8th grade until 1978, when he continued to harvest corn, soybeans and wheat. Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of the Williamson County Farm Bureau Association and was confirmed in the Zion United Church of Christ. Dick enjoyed several events at the Williamson County Fairgrounds, and was known to load up his grandkids in the bed of the pick-up truck to go watch the horse races. Most days, Dick could be found sitting in his swing, chatting with numerous visitors, and feeding Fluffy, Gizzard and his 5 other feral cats. Dick’s pride and joy was his plentiful garden, and he loved when people left with grocery sacks full of vegetables. Later in life, Dick was proud to watch his son and grandson carry on the farming family tradition and became a loving babysitter to all his grandchildren.
Dick’s survivors include his five grandchildren – Kistin (Jeff) Lober, Wendie Holmes, Jordan Krumrey, Harleigh Krumrey and Jay Krumrey of Marion; five great-grandchildren – Kelsey Lober, Kaiden Johns, Elair Johns, Kenady (Ridge) Boyer, and Dennon Johns of Marion; special friend Vicki Meracle, nephews and several cousins. He is preceded by his parents – John and Ella Krumrey; his wife – Mildred Krumrey; and son – Darryll Krumrey.
