Marion- Veda Vickery, 91, formerly of Marion, passed from this life at 6:50 PM on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Evergreen Nursing & Rehab Center in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7 , 2011 at 10:30 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, IL with Brother Jim Beaty officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until the service time. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, IL where she will be laid to rest next to her husband of 56 years. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Nursing Home & Rehab Center. Veda was born on June 8, 1919, in Springerton, IL to Edgar & Mary (Sefried) Meritt. She married Charles T. Vickery on November 10, 1945; he preceded her in death on April 18, 2001.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Mary Ann & Ron Levitt of Woodlawn, IL; grandchildren, Darrin & Robin Levitt of Ashley, IL, Wade (now stationed in Afghanistan) & Mary Chaplin of Thompsonville, IL; great-grandson, Matthew Chaplin; sister, Verla Becker of Evansville, IN; sister-in-law, Muriel Meritt of St. Petersburg, FL and several nieces & nephews.
Veda was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Charles; daughter, Judy Chaplin; brothers, Walter Meritt and Roy Meritt (who passed while serving his country in WWII).
Veda spent most of her life living in Carmi, IL before moving to Marion. She later spent several years in Mt. Vernon, IL before becoming ill and having to move on to Evergreen Rehab in Effingham, IL. Veda formerly worked at Treslers Store, but was primarily a homemaker and loving mother. At age 90, she re-dedicated her life to the Lord.
