Vadia Ruth West Marion-Vadia Ruth West, 83, of Marion, passed away at 7:25 PM on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Marion Rehab & Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Edward “Shorty” Alsip officiating; burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Vadia was born on July 27, 1927 in Williamson County to Charles & Effie (Baker) Newton. She married Dean West in 1944 in Pensacola, FL; he preceded her on May 31, 1985, after 41 years of marriage. Survivors include loving her loving son, Jack & (wife) Debbie West of Marion; grandchildren, Jerry West & Fiancé’ Melissa Crites both of Johnston City, Brian West of Marion, Amber Gordon and Adam Gordon both of Paducah; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vadia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Judy Gordon; sisters, Velma Hudgens, Grace Wallace, Jewel McCormick, Jenny Bell and Mary Alsip; brother, Raleigh Newton. She was a past Matron of Eastern Star and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
