Thomas William Dalton

Thomas W. Dalton, age 79, of Marion, Illinois,  passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2023 at his home in Marion, Illinois with his family by his bedside.  

Tom was born December 08, 1943 in Marion, Illinois, a son of Virgil I. Dalton and Sylvia M. (Saddler) Dalton. He grew up in Marion and was a 1961 graduate of Marion High School.  He  married Lucille Jack on July 01, 1964 in Marion, IL.  Tom worked at Lloyd West Garage in Marion as a mechanic and bodyman.  He then worked as a coal miner for Inland Steel and later at Console Coal, where he retired.  Tom was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping.  He cherished spending time with his entire family and looked forward to Christmas every year and decorating his home.  He was a member at Church of God in Johnston City, Illinois and United Mines Workers of America.   

He is survived by his wife Lucille Dalton of Marion, IL; two children, Sheila M. (Lester) James of Carbondale, IL and Michael L. (Alicia) Dalton of Marion, IL; six grandchildren, Jonathon (Callie) James, Dalton (Jordan) James, Brittney (Derek) Ehlers, Ryan (Hannah) Dalton, Makayla (Jawan) Tucker, and Liam Casolari; eleven great-grandchildren, Kinley James, Gunnar James, Lincoln James, Bayne James, Elissa James, Nylah James, Brayden Ehlers, Brooklyn Ehlers, Jaila Tucker, Jylan Tucker, and Jayce Tucker; and four siblings, Clifton (Anita) Dalton of Johnston City, IL, Carol Peppers of Marion, IL, Beverly Dunning of Marion, IL, and Debbie Curtner of Marion, IL.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil I. and Sylvia M. Dalton and two brothers, Richard Dalton and infant Lowell Eugene Dalton.

Visitation will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Marion on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from12:00 - 1:00 PM.  Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:00PM.  Rev. Barry Steed will officiate.  Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.
