Thelma A. Avery MARION-Thelma A. Avery, 93, of Marion passed away at 3:30 AM, Monday, September 12, 2005 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at County Line Cemetery, Creal Springs. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Avery was born on November 20, 1911 in Wayne County, Illinois to Harve and Nell (Borah) Tibbs. She married Claude Avery on August 18, 1936 in Anna, Illinois; he preceded her in death on June 6, 1990. Survivors include sisters-in-law, Ida Hiscox and Anna Mae Pickett; brothers-in-law, George and Jim Avery; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, Ray Tibbs. Mrs. Avery was a Registered Nurse and worked in Norwalk, California for 25 years. She served her country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Nurse Corp, retiring after several years of service. She was a member of the Marion American Legion Post 147, Marion VFW Post 1301, Retired Officers Association, and the Reserve Officers Association.
