Marion-Stephen “SloRide” Reiter, 50, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at home.
Stephen was born on July 7, 1967; he was a Marion native, SIU Alum, Army Veteran and DJ. Stephen never hesitated to live his life exactly as he wished and what an adventure he had! As one of Chicago’s premier disc jockeys, Stephen entertained countless thousands in many of the city’s most famous venues, including the Cubby Bear where he worked with dozens of world famous performers as the entertainment director.
His radio career began as a producer for the nationally syndicated Liz Wylde Show on Chicago’s WLUP and lead to his return to his beloved hometown to produce his own sports themed shows, Head Slap Radio and Off Sides w/ Steve Reiter. Stephen was a founding and life-long member of the OFL, the longest standing fantasy football league in history.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Gladys Reiter and brothers, Doug and Buddy.
He is survived by his wife, Darla; children, Tiffany Steckenrider (Travis) and Matthew Sine; granddaughter, Summer Steckenrider and siblings, Valerie Byrd, Corrine Reiter, Al Reiter, Jack Reiter, Laura Scaman (Kevin), Tom Reiter (Judy), Margaret Gaines (Paul) and Teri Hammond.
