Stanley R. Meyer MARION-Stanley R. Meyer, 75, of Marion passed away at 12:49 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion with Reverend Marlin Otte and Tom Collinge officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, September 28, 2009 at the church. Blue Funeral Home is assisting the family with the services. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society; envelopes are available through the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Stan was born September 9, 1934 in Nicollet County, Minnesota to William R. and Rose (Gieseke) Meyer. He married Cecilia Kinney on December 4, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota; together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, “Cec” of Marion; his children, Robert S. Meyer and Brenda Grant of Marion, Lori and Randall Hancock of Scottsburg, Indiana, Scott & Kimberly Meyer of Carterville, Leslie and Jeff Somers of Marion and Jeff and Kim Meyer of Marion; grandchildren, Christina Meyer, Jenny Meyer, Brittany Richardson, Caitlin Hancock, Kelsie Hancock, Rani Lee Somers, Kourtney Meyer and Zachery Meyer; five great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Carol Meyer of Pipestone, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Meyer; and great grandchild, Landon Meyer; Stan was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion. He served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Stan was in sale early in his career, managing Tempo Stores in Minnesota and Illinois. He was the General Manager of the Marion Daily Republican for many years. He managed newspapers all over Southern Illinois and was currently an advertising representative for Reppert Publications, putting together the Southern Illinois Tourism and Recreation Guides. Stan was a true journalist. He was a devout Christian and a loving father, grandfather, always putting his family first.
