Shirley "Flora Mae" (Gower) Summers

Shirley "Flora Mae" (Gower) Summers, age 85, of Marion, Illinois,  passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. 

Shirley was born February 10, 1937 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of William Aud and Pearl Mae (Owens) Gower. She married the love of her life, Danny L. Summers on October 28, 1966 in Murphysboro, IL.  

Prior to retiring, Shirley had worked at Hoods Studio in the 1960s and 70s, oil painting pictures. She loved sewing, quilting, and kids. If you ever needed anything, she was right there. She loved her family and grand kids. A highlight in her life was seeing one of her great grand babies being born. 

Shirley is survived by husband of fifty five years- Danny L. Summers
Son- Danny J. Wells
Daughter- Mary (Carl) Jarrell
Daughter- Robin Summers
Grandchildren- Christina (Tim) Grob
     Sarah (Fred) Anderson-Acosta
     Adam Anderson
     Megan Wells
     Brinna Jarrell
     Carrie (Joe) Foster
     Ann Jarrell
Great Grandchildren- Corbin, Jaedyn, Chase, Chase, Hayden, and Addyson Grob
     Kayleigh and Liana Acosta
     Claire Polak
Sister- Linda Clark

She was preceded in death by her parents, son- Jimmy Joe Russell, four brothers- Virgil, Mickey, Paul, and Johnnie Gower; and two sisters- Dorothy Loyd and Maxine Emery.

The family would like to thank their wonderful neighbors, Country and Cris Hill, for always watching out for Shirley; Laura Hebert for being so kind and thinking of her with cupcakes; Rachel and Amanda for being wonderful caregivers to her; and Hospice of Southern Illinois for being so helpful and kind in her last days. 

Visitation will be Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Charles "Country" Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.
