Sherman Lee Taylor, age 73, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.
Sherman was born January 24, 1950 in Levelle, Missouri, a son of Fred and Nadine (Kassinger) Taylor. Sherman grew up in Risco, MO and he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the Marine Corps. When he returned home he worked in Sikeston, MO for a year and married the love of his life, Wanda L. Burns on May 11, 1974 in Crowne Point, Indiana. He moved to Marion, IL. Sherman worked for the City of Marion Water Dept until his retirement. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing gospel music, camping and fishing. Sherman started a truck stop music ministry and played and sang at many local churches.
He is survived by his wife Wanda L. Taylor of Marion, IL; two children, Sherman R. (Jaleigh) Taylor of Marion, IL and Shermalee (Matthew) Summers of Marion, IL; step-daughter, Mary Gabby and step-son, Wally Bauer and 9 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nadine Taylor.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 1st, 2023 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, IL. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, 11:00 AM at Mounds National Cemetery with full military honors.
