Shannon Lynn Byrd

Shannon Lynn Byrd, age 71, of Goreville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Shannon was born April 14, 1952 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of Joe and Lillian (Whitney) Newton. Shannon grew up in Goreville, IL, where she graduated High School. She married Roy A. Byrd, and together they started their family. Shannon was a stay at home mom while her kids grew up. Later in life she worked at Target in Marion. Later she worked in Housekeeping at the Lake of Egypt Power Plant cleaning offices, until her retirement. Shannon loved visiting with friends and family, telling stories and laughing. She was a selfless person and loved her grandchildren and spent all the time with them that she could.

She is survived by two children, Brandi Thornton of Anna, IL and Brannon Byrd of Anna, IL; two grandchildren, Madelyn Thornton and Gabriel Thornton; and one brother, Rick (Loudine) Newton of Marion, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Lillian Newton and two brothers, Terry Godby of Marion, IL and David Newton of Marion, IL.

Visitation will be Monday, April 22nd, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville. Burial will follow at Busby Cemetery in Goreville.
