Samuel A. Jackson

Carterville-Samuel A. “Sam” Jackson died unexpectedly at home on May 7, 2015 in Carterville at the age of 75. Sam is survived by his wife, Diana of Carrier Mills; his sister, Ruth Black of Tyler, TX; four children, Bobby Miller, James Miller, Christopher Miller and Sammie Miller and grandchildren, David, Kathryn and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lou and brother, Terrill. Sam was born on July 21, 1939 in Port Arthur, TX to A.C. and Ruth Jackson.  He graduated from Elkins School of Broadcasting in July 1974.  He was a radio DJ for a number of years in TX.  Sam married Diana Ausburn in 1986, she survives of Carrier Mills.  After moving to Pasadena, TX, Sam and Diana started the Gazette Express Newspaper, which they ran successfully together until 1992 when they moved to Carterville. Sam has always been an avid country music fan.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and writing songs.  Once he discovered Facebook, he found an avenue for his passion once again.  Known as the “Facebook DJ” he loved sharing clips of old country music on there. A memorial visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 5pm-7pm at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sam’s life.  The family would like to thank Sam’s friends and Facebook family for their kind words over the past few days.
