Sally Esther Jones

Sally E. Jones, age 85, of Carrier Mills, Illinois, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Barnes- Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Illinois.

Sally was born November 20, 1938 in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, a daughter of William and Celina (Bacon) Fischer. Sally was a military brat, and her family moved often as she grew up. She had worked as a stewardess for Delta Airline. She married the love of her life, Lee R. Jones on May 25, 1963 in Memphis, TN. That same year they moved to Marion, IL. She worked at Wal-Mart for 30 years , retiring in Human Resources. She and her husband also owned and operated Hometown Distributing, delivering news papers in Marion and surrounding communities.

She is survived by five sons, William (Tammy) Jones of Johnston City, IL, John P. Jones of Carbondale, IL, David E. (Patti) Jones of Springfield, OH, James D. (Michelle) Jones of Salem, MA, and Robert M. (Serenity) Jones of Whitehorse, Canada; ten grandchildren, Ryan Jones, Allison Jones, Lyndsey Jones, Ashley Jones, Nikki (Matthew) Lemoth, Josh Jones, Jesse Jones, Mikail Jones, Ryder Jones, and Cash Jones; and her 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Celina Fischer and one sister, Mary Trimble.

Per Sally's wishes, she gifted her body to Washington University School of Medicine. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a later date.
