Russell Louis Ammann, age 81, of Marion, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 4:28 p.m. at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Russ was born on December 9, 1938 in Madison County, Illinois, a son of Erwin and Adaline (Landert) Ammann. He married Alice Marie Haller on December 10, 1992 in Paducah, Kentucky and she survives. Russ was a farmer and also worked as a truck driver for the Teamster’s Local #525 in Alton, Illinois. He was an avid sports fan, particularly the St. Louis Cardinals and the UK Wildcats. Russ was a hard worker; he loved working, especially on his farm and in his yard. He loved playing golf and he was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Ammann of Marion; his children, Pamela (Bob) Winet, Mike (Shari) Ammann and Craig (Kelly) Ammann, all of Highland; step-children, James (Kellie) Zeller and Tom (Fran) Zeller, both of Marion; his grandchildren, Jamie (Derek) Schroff, Jessica Fleer, David (Kate) Ammann, Daniel (Aryn) Ammann, Devin (Lexi) Ammann, Kayla (Craig) Kniepmann, Chesley Ammann, Jamie (Nick) Zeller-Taylor, Dustin (Megan) Zeller, April (Kevin) Marion, Michelle Streep, Dennis Streep, Mike (Verbal) Blakey, Matt Blakey and Mark (Chrissy) Blakey; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Roscoe (Julia) Ammann of Highland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister during childhood, Romayne; and his step-daughter, Judy Zeller.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will take place in Hug Cemetery in East Pierron, Illinois on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, those attending the burial are asked to maintain social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Boxes 411, Marion, Illinois 62959.
