MARION-Russell Dean Fisher, 88, of Marion passed away at 11:18 PM, Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 26, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Joey Brent officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Monday, June 26, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Marion First Baptist Church Building Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mr. Fisher was born on July 11, 1917 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Ferd and Nell (Watson) Fisher. He married Jessie Kirby on July 5, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; together they shared almost 65 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie of Marion; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Richard Thompson and Beverly and Alan Dean all of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Ellen Fisher of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Michael Baker, Brent Baker, Lisa McGovern, David and Brooke Dean, Allan Fisher, Glen Fisher, Sarah Palmer and Rachael Palmer; great grandchildren, Jessica Baker, Douglas McGovern, Lynsey McGovern, Ashleigh Wilson, Lani Dean, Kami Dean and Kelly Fisher; son-in-law, Richard Palmer; brother-in-law, Gene Snider; niece, Jane Ann and Russell Keene; and cousin, Aileen Williamson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Bonnie Palmer; and sister, Wilda Snider.
Mr. Russell after graduating from Du Quoin High School attended St. Louis Barber School where he became a licensed barber. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. He retired from the City of Marion after 27 years as a superintendent in the water department. He was a longtime member of Marion First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Marion VFW Post 1301.
He loved to fish and he went everyday until his health prevented him from doing so.
