Rufus L. Lindsey

Rufus L. Lindsey, age 60, of Marion, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 4:04 p.m. in Herrin Hospital, Herrin, Illinois.

Rufus was born on February 21, 1959 in Memphis, Tennessee, a son of Rufus L. and Dorothy (Staples) Lindsey, Sr.  He married Beth Harlan on April 11, 2003 in Marion and she survives.  Rufus worked in Environmental Services for Herrin Hospital and was a member of the House of Judah Church, Carterville, Illinois.  He enjoyed cooking and barbequing and loved to watch baseball and football, particularly the Chicago Cubs and Bears.  Rufus was known to be a man of few words and was very humble, but above all, Rufus loved the Lord and loved his family.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Lindsey of Marion; three children, Latanya (Gregory) Langhorn of Memphis, Kristi (James) Winters of Marion and Eli Harlan of Marion; his parents-in-law, Sid and Jeannie Harlan of Marion; six grandchildren, Ladaris Burks, Cassidy Burks, Lauren Langhorn, Riley Winters, Rhyder Dawkins and Grace Winters; one great-grandchild, Caiden Langhorn; his brother, Marvell (Barbara) Lindsey of Memphis; his sister, Betty Dotson of Memphis; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lauren (Dennis) Eckert of Aledo, Illinois; his brother-in-law, Mark Harlan of Marion; a niece, Valerie Edwards of Memphis; four nephews, Ricky Stevenson, Ivory Stevenson, Carl Stevenson and Lawrence Stevenson all of Memphis; his beloved dog, Molly; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at House of Judah Church, Carterville, on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors John and Chelly Rutherford officiating.

Visitation will be held at House of Judah Church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

For those who prefer, memorials may be made to House of Judah Church.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at the church during the visitation and also at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
