Ruby L. Chapman Marion—Ruby Lois Chapman, 82 of Marion passed away at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services for Mrs. Chapman will be on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11:00 Am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Scott Kallem officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 20152 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Donations are suggested to Third Baptist Church in Marion. Envelopes will be available during services or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Ruby was born in Pittsburg on Saturday, March 8, 1930 to Lauren E. & Maude (Heath) Maynard. She was first married at age 20 and had 2 children, Richard and Joyce Hope. She later married Bill Murray who preceded her in death in 1984. She then married James R. Chapman on Monday, October 4, 1999; they had just celebrated 13 years together. He survives of Marion. Mrs. Chapman is survived by her husband, James; children, Richard & Debbie Hope and Joyce Hope with fiance’ David Vaughn all of Marion; step-children, Jim & Susan Chapman of Lawrenceville, GA, John Chapman and Nancy & Bill McKenzie of Marion; grandchildren, Senior Chief Brad & Philena Hope of Marion, Travis & Danielle and Michael Eubanks of Carterville; step-grandchildren, Joshua Vaughn of Marion, Becky & David Harris of Grayson, GA, Robin & Randy Geary of Auburn, GA, Amanda & Brad Dalton of Marion, Jamie Chapman of Lawrenceville, Amy McKenzie and Ashley McKenzie of Marion; great-grandchildren, Dylan Hope and Trevor Hope of Chesapeake, VA, Phoenix Hope of Marion and Knox Hope of Carterville; step-great-grandchildren, McKenzie Brook Dalton, Haley Dalton, Madeline Dalton and Brad Dalton II of Marion, Rachel Clark and Ryan Clark of Auburn, GA, Jacob Young and Zach Young of Marion and sister, Beulah Frey of Marion. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; and siblings, (infant) Lawrence Maynard, Alman Maynard (died at Leyte Island during WWII), Melvin Maynard, Paul Eugene Maynard, Robert “Bob” Maynard, Margaret Lattuca and Flossie Auer. Mrs. Chapman was a member of Third Baptist Church in Marion where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to children for many years. Ruby attended John A. Logan Community College and for a time was President of the Marion Christian Singles Club. Her first job was working in the office at the Southern Illinois Airport. She owned a dress shop in Marion for several years, worked as an accountant for Pepsi-Cola for 18 years and finally retired from Sam’s Club. Mrs. Chapman was versatile & gregarious and enjoyed her work and loved the people she worked with. Ruby was always quick with a smile and to offer a helping hand. She could always find something positive in any situation and brought out the best in the people around her. In her later years Ruby enjoyed water aerobics and was a member of the Red Hat Club. Through the years she and her sisters went on numerous excursions across the country together. Mrs. & Mr. Chapman also traveled to different countries and visited many wonderful tropical islands. Jim & Ruby shared many joyful years together. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always will. They were all extremely important to her, as well as those that they loved, married and were friends with. She was proud of her entire family.
