Goreville-Ruben John Throgmorton, 100, passed away at 6:18 pm on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Ruben was born on July 13, 1913 in Grassy Township, Illinois to John and Fletta (Goodman) Throgmorton.  He married Margie Vaughn and together they had three children. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2010. Ruben worked several years as a bridge carpenter for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a pitcher for the Goreville ball team. Ruben went to Tennessee for major league tryouts and was accepted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved hunting coon dogs, fox dogs, rabbit dogs. He said that any dog that didn’t have long hound ears was a cur dog Survivors include: Sons: Richard Lee Throgmorton of Goreville and Billy Joe and Kathy Throgmorton of Marion Son in law: Lowell Martin of Goreville Grandchildren: Joe Martin of Goreville Sam Martin of Paducah John Throgmorton of West Frankfort Richie Throgmorton of North Carolina Marie Throgmorton of Florida Nine great-grandchildren Five great-great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter; Betty Martin, granddaughter Jackie Byers, sisters; Elloise Becker and Lillian Layman, brothers; Bell Hudgens, Pinkney Throgmorton, Herman Throgmorton, Carl Throgmorton and Harley Throgmorton and one infant child. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 25, at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Dr. Ron Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery in Goreville.  Visitation will be on Thursday, July 25 from 11am-1pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ PO Box 411/ Marion, IL  62959.
