Cebran Russell
MARION-Roy “Ceb” Russell, 63, of Marion passed away peacefully at 1:41 PM, Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. During his illness Ceb accepted Jesus Christ as his savior.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Clark E. Short officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, April 6, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Mr. Russell was born October 4, 1943 in Piper, Alabama to Daniel and Reba (Woodham) Russell. He married Glenda Short on December 30, 1978 and they recently celebrated 28 wonderful years together. From this union they were blessed with two daughters, who were the loves of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Kevin Caldwell of Wonder Lake; daughter, Sara Russell of Marion; grandson, Brady Caldwell and one grandchild due in September; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Virginia Russell of West Frankfort and David and Camilla Russell of Marion; sisters and brothers-in-law, Reba (Imer) and Carl Spinks of Herrin, Dorothy and Sherman Taylor of Carterville, and Helen and John Rowatt of Colp; sister-in-law, Kathy Russell of Champaign; a host of nieces and nephews; and three dogs, Morgan, Mia and Toby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James “Jim” Russell, David “Dago” Russell, Horace “Bud” Russell and Ed Scurlock; and sister-in-law, Jerry Russell.
Ceb and his family moved to Carterville in 1954. He graduated from Carterville High School in 1961 and recently celebrated his 45th class reunion. He joined the United States Army in 1965 and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1966 until his discharge in 1967. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 702 for 37 years until his retirement in October of 2005. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, Marion Eagles and Crab Orchard Golf Club.
Ceb was loved and respected by all. Over the years he developed many cherished relationships. He lived to play golf and spend time with friends and family. Last year he was able to fulfill a dream of attending the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. This weekend we know heâll find a big screen and be watching the Masters. Ceb will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
