Roy "Nugget" Alvin Byrd

Roy Alvin Byrd, age 70, of Anna, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois.

Roy was born April 07, 1953 in Peoria, Illinois, a son of Mack and Dorothy Bonds Byrd.

Roy formerly worked as a powder and drill operator/foreman in the coal mine industry, an EMT, paramedic and a nurse. He loved helping people. Roy loved music, playing his guitar and singing in his bands and watching his hummingbirds. Roy was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide football fan and last by not least he loved fishing.

He is survived by his two children, Brandi Thornton of Anna, IL and Brannon Byrd of Anna, IL; his stepmother, Loretta Byrd of Brewton, AL; and six siblings, Cheryl Byrd (John) Herald of St. Marys, GA, Karen (Steve) Shomo of Lewsville, TX, Lloyd (Debbie) Byrd of Reidsville, GA, Robert (Mechelle) Byrd of Castleberry, AL, Walter Byrd of Southhaven, MS, and Tom (Tosha) Bonds of Marion, IL; and his former wife Shannon Newton . He is preceded in death by his wife Judi Byrd; his parents, Mack and Dorothy Byrd; and two siblings, Leon Byrd and Debbie Byrd.
