Goreville-Roger Allyn Thornton, 71, passed away at 6:21pm on Monday, January 5, 2015 at his home.
Roger was born on December 28, 1943 in Goreville to Willallyn and Estle (Green) Thornton. He married Sallie Slowik-Paugh on April 5, 2009 in Goreville. She survives of Goreville.
Roger served in the U.S. Air Force in England. He was a Mason at the Saline Lodge 339 for 40 years. Roger was a member of the Goreville Pentecostal Church and a trustee of Friendship Cemetery. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His hobbies included golfing, riding his motorcycle, boating and his dogs Cleo and Sugarbaby, he also had a racehorse named Flying Bob. Roger loved God, his family and church and regularly visited shut ins. He was a devoted husband, beloved father and cherished “Pa Pa” He will be dearly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randall Thornton; infant brother, Oliver D. Thornton and children, Scott Thornton and Renee Thornton
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11am at Goreville Pentecostal Church with Rev. R.G. Null officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5pm-8pm at the church.
