Rodney Howard Weldon

Rodney Howard Weldon, age 68, of Goreville, passed away on August 27, 2020 at 1:52 a.m. at his home.

Rodney was born on September 27, 1951 in Chicago, a son of Robert and Marguerite (Elmzen) Weldon.  He married Evelyn Sue Galus on July 7, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada and she survives.

Rodney was a resident of the Lake of Egypt.  He was an avid fisherman, traveler and long-term employee of the Ford Motor Company.  Rodney was a member of the Moose Lodge #9663 in Murphysboro.  He was an avid Chicago sports fan and a mentor to many.  He was always quick to offer advice, instruction and directions.  All that came to his home knew his grill was ready and he loved to entertain.  He was of the Lutheran faith. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Sue Weldon; seven children, Melissa (Carl) Volanti, Daniel Weldon, Kristan (Mark) Barnard, Jason Nigro, Joseph (Tricia) Nigro, Allison (Sam) Fuller and Gina Crain (fiancé, Paul Elders); he was blessed with numerous grandchildren, Nicholas Nigro, Savannah Sheffler, Giovanni Crain, Abigail Volanti, Maya Volanti, Ava Volanti, Maylin Volanti, Hannah Fuller, Liam Fuller, Jane Fuller, Gwendolyn Weldon, Taylor Weldon, Hailey Weldon and Keaton Nigro and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marguerite Weldon; and two brothers, Robert Weldon and Ronald Weldon.

A memorial service will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend John Holst officiating . Inurnment will follow in Tanner Cemetery in Goreville.  A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, those attending are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and the wearing of masks is encouraged.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Blue Funeral Home to help the family with the funeral costs and will be accepted at the funeral home.
