Robert "Bob" Wilson

Goreville-Robert O. Wilson, 87, known to his friends and family as “Bob” or “R.O”, of Lake of Egypt, IL, and formerly of Cape Girardeau, MO, died August 25, 2014 at his home. Bob was born in Wyandotte County, KS on January 19, 1927 to Robert Orville Wilson, Sr. and Alice (Corrigan) Wilson.  On June 24, 1950 he married Patsy Ruth Wheeler and they had three children.  He later married Dorothy Lincoln Cook who survives him. He was a member and former deacon of the Lake of Egypt Christian Church in Goreville. He was a member and past president of the Eagle Point Bay Association and was a 32nd degree Mason and life member of the Saline Lodge #339. Bob graduated Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS and served three years in the United States Army, assigned to the Army Air Corps during and after the end of World War II. After discharge from the Army, he opened a garage in Kansas City, KS with Stan Scroggins for several years and at the same time studied to become an electrician. He was initiated as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124 in Kansas City on June 25, 1952 and remained a member until his death.  Bob worked as an electrician for Boese Hilburn Electric Company in Kansas City, KS until 1968, at which time he became employed by Fruin Colnon Corporation. His first employment with that company brought him to Cape Girardeau, MO with the initial construction of the Proctor & Gamble plant in Cape Girardeau. He continued to be employed by Fruin Colnon and its various successor companies until he finally retired in the late 1990s. The employment took him to job locations in many states across the entire country. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Cheryl Michalson (Ken Casey) of Lawrence, KS; Stephen C. Wilson (Jean) of Cape Girardeau; and Melissa Ann Baar (John) of Port Angeles, WA; four step children, Joe Cook of Cape Girardeau; Cathy Craft (Dwight) of Jackson; Sue Bohnsack of Prescott Valley, AZ; and Tony Cook (Lisa) of Whitewater.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christian Burt (Yolanda) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Rosanna Cohle of Kansas City, MO; Lauren Michalson of Lawrence, KS; Katie Britt (Matt) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Matthew Phillip Roberts and Kenneth Wilson Roberts of Port Angeles, WA and five great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Maxine Berry and grandson Tommy Michalson. There will be a celebration of Bob’s life held at the Lake of Egypt Christian Church in Goreville, IL on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11am with Minister Leroy Waggoner officiating.  Visitation will also take place on Tuesday at 10am until the time of service at the church.  Burial will be in a private ceremony at the Lessley Ridge Cemetery located adjacent to the County Line Baptist Church in Bollinger County, MO.  Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is assisting the family with arrangements.
