Robert G. Schoenenberger MARION-Robert G. Schoenenberger, 78, of Marion, passed away at 2:51 PM, Monday, May 3, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Bob Dickerson and Reverend D. R. Abbott officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Robert was born January 23, 1932 in Chicago to Edward and Mildred (Wick) Schoenenberger. He married Greta Semple on June 14, 1952 in Chicago; together they shared 57 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Greta Schoenenberger of Marion; daughters, Robbi Dawn DeWitt and Tammy Lynn Rutherford both of Marion; grandsons, Wesley Cameron Parkhurst and Stuart Wade Parkhurst; and brother, Leroy Schoenenberger of Berkley, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Holly Beth DeWitt; and nine brothers and sisters. Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion. He previously worked as an electrician in the Chicago area. His wife Greta was born and raised in the West Frankfort area and after retirement 16 years ago they moved to the Marion area to be close to Greta’s family. He served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of IBEW Local 134. He was skilled in the field of carpentry work. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
