Robert E. Peterson GOREVILLE-Robert E. Peterson, 81, of Goreville passed away at 5:30 AM, Thursday, June 8, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 12, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Goreville with Dr. Ron Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 11, 2006 at the church. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Carbondale. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the John A. Logan College Scholarship Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Peterson was born on April 21, 1925 in Halidayboro, Illinois to Marion and Flora (Crawford) Peterson. He married Barbara Jean Justice on April 18, 1949 in Carbondale, Illinois together they shared 57 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife Barbara of Goreville; son, Larry Peterson and Terri Whitehead of Carbondale; daughter, Jean Epperley of Marion; grandsons, Mathew, Mark and Michael Epperley all of Marion; brother, Otis Peterson of Round Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Albert and Clyde Peterson; and sisters, Violet Jopplin and Reba Eaton. Mr. Peterson worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. He was a member and deacon of the Goreville First Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, under the command of General George Patton.
