Creal Springs- Robert Eugene "Bob" Lindsay, 58, went to meet Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, on October 17, 2014. He battled stage 4 brain cancer for over thirteen months and was an inspiration to others as he testified of his faith throughout the illness.
Robert was born April 19, 1956, in Marion, Illinois to James and Juanita (Batts) Lindsay. He married Robyn (Halbert) Lindsay on July 25, 1981. Of this union came 4 children, 2 of which died before birth.
He became a Christian as a young man and was an active member of the Scottsboro Baptist Church in Marion, Illinois. He loved Jesus Christ and was always ready to stand and give a testimony of his faith. He served in many ways, but those dearest to his heart were the Brotherhood Group and visiting the sick to encourage and pray with them.
Robert graduated with his Master's degree in Zoology from SIUC. Upon graduation, he worked for HARZA Engineering, based in Chicago, Illinois, which gave him the opportunity to live in Anchorage, Alaska and be part of a planning group for a hydro-electric dam. Robert went on to work as a biologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in the Division of Natural Heritage. Over several recent years, Robert had the opportunity to fight Western US wildfires through IDNR. He enjoyed his profession and, up to and including the day of his passing, continued to work toward the goal of conservation in the state of Illinois. He enjoyed the outdoors and how it continues to reflect the perfect design of God, the great creator.
His children were his joy and he was very proud of each of them. He used his love of nature and working with his hands to assist his children in any project they were working toward. He traveled to Belize to collect botanical specimens and serve as a field assistant with his daughter, Colleen, for her doctoral research in Anthropology and Plant Biology. Robert also traveled to New Mexico with his son, Payton, to enjoy the scenic vistas and to accompany him to a summer internship. He was always available and supportive of his youngest children, Clark and Hoyt, on their many adventures.
Robert will be greatly missed by his wife, Robyn, his children; Colleen, Payton and wife Cassie, Clark, and Hoyt; his parents, James and Juanita; brother, Steven and wife Priscilla Lindsay; paternal grandmother, Helen Callahan; nieces Rachel and husband Ben, Naarah and husband Kyle; nephew Ethan and wife Sarah; three great-nephews and one great-niece; mother-in-law Georgia and husband Norman Jay Elkins. He is survived by several aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
Robert was reunited in heaven with his unborn children, father-in-law Donald Halbert, maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather, and unborn great-nephew.
Through his illness he reflected his faith and wanted to “give the reason for the hope that you have....with gentleness and respect”, a logical, rational and intellectual defense of the Christian Faith.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Scottsboro Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Hood will officiate. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Creal Springs. The visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Scottsboro Baptist Church.
