Richard Lee Smart

Richard Lee Smart, age 71, of Pittsburg, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Integrity Health Care in Marion, Illinois.

Richard was born March 27, 1952 in Carbondale, Illinois, a son of George and Ruth (Tompkins) Smart. Richard grew up in Marion and attended Marion schools. He started working at General Tire, then worked for 2 different contractors before starting his own business, Smart Improvements in 1998. He was self employed for 20 years before he retired. He married Debbie Deaton on April 13, 1974 and she passed away June, 13, 2017. Richard enjoyed mechanic work, fishing and was always on his feet doing something in his garage.

He is survived by three children; Todd R. Smart of Gardner, IL, Adam (Summer) Smart of Pittsburg, IL, and Sara (Steve) Ewing of Pittsburg, IL; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren and five brothers & sisters. He is preceded in death by his wife Debbie Smart; son Eric Smart and daughter-in-law Brenda Smart; his parents, George and Ruth Smart; and four brothers & sister.

Visitation will be Friday, January 5th, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Blumenstock officiating. Burial will follow at Busby Cemetery in Goreville.
