Reverend Wilburn Dean Adams
GOREVILLE-Reverend Wilburn Dean Adams, 79, of Goreville passed away at 3:11 AM, Saturday, May 12, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 14, 2007 at McKinney Chapel Church, Lake of Egypt with Reverend Robert Patton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville and 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Monday at the church. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard.
Reverend Adams was born January 31, 1928 in McLeansboro, Illinois to Robert and Helen (Prince) Adams. He married Wilma Jean Crowley on November 10, 1950 in Evansville, Indiana; the Lord blessed them with 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean of Goreville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Anita Adams of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and Reverend Larry and Sandra Adams of Creal Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Karl McNichols of Goreville; grandchildren, Don and Jamie Adams, Jennifer and Mark Hale, Christy and Bryce Parks, Jeremy Adams, Andrew and Kathy Adams, Joshua Adams and Samuel and Hannah McNichols; six great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Sue and Robert Summers of Christopher; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Doyle and Violet Adams of Norris City, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Jackie Crowley of Newburgh, Indiana and Norman Crowley of Panama City, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronny D. Adams; grandson, Matthew Adams; brother, Murrell Gene Adams; and an infant sister, Shirley Ann Adams.
Reverend Adams was an ordained minister in the Ohio Valley Association of General Baptists. He pastored several churches in southern Illinois. He played the guitar and mandolin and sang gospel music with his family for over 50 years. He was converted and accepted the call to the ministry in January of 1960.
Reverend Adams was a union painter and home builder for many years. He served his country with the United States Navy and the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
