Reverend Mary L. Rodgers

Reverend Mary L. Rodgers, 80, of Goreville, Illinois, passed away at 1:24 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Mary was born on May 8, 1940 in Williamson County, Illinois to the late Lester and Lucy (Blumenstock) Rodgers.

Mary was a member of the Pulley’s Mill Pentecostal Church, north of Goreville. She helped the pastor at the Downers Grove Pentecostal Church in Downers Grove, Illinois, who was her twin sister, Martha. She also pastored in South Dakota.

She is survived by her sisters, Shirley (Clarence) Perry, Janice Wollard, Reverend Martha Rodgers, Marjorie (George) Ford, Nancy (Don) Landwehr all of Goreville, Pat (Jim) Reynolds of Vienna, Illinois; special friend, Linda Darnell; many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Oscar E. Rodgers, Sr.; two sisters, Retha E. Rodgers, Wanda F. Travelstead; three brothers-in-law, Donald Ray Wollard, Robert W. Travelstead and William “Bill” Billingsley, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with James Perry and George Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery, south of Marion, Illinois.

A time of visitation will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, those attending the service are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask.

Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is assisting the family with final arrangements.
