Reverend Daniel Swan, Jr.
STONEFORT-Reverend Daniel Swan, Jr., 79, of Stonefort passed away at 5:30 AM, Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years and nine children.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Edward “Shorty” Alsip officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery, Dykersburg. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Reverend Swan was born on November 14, 1926 in Stonefort, Illinois to Daniel Webster and Ida (Tanner) Swan. He married Mildred J. Shadowens on February 9, 1948.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; his children, Danny and Brenda Swan of Stonefort, Roberta and Terry Parton of Joliet, Ronnie and Connie Swan of West Frankfort, Jack Swan of Stonefort, Kenny and Donna Swan of Herrin, Allen and Lisa Swan of Marion, Kathy and Tony Jimenez of Joliet, Brad and Michele Swan of Marion and Millie and Darrin Gooch of Marion; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
Reverend Swan worked for many years as a coal miner and retired from Fabick Machinery Company in Marion in February of 1989. He served his country with the United States Navy aboard the USS Puget Sound, an escort aircraft carrier in World War II. He was a pastor for several churches in the surrounding area. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and he loved the outdoors.
