Raymond Schreiner

Raymond E. “Jug” Schreiner MARION-Raymond E. “Jug” Schreiner, 81, of Marion passed away at 7:50 PM, Monday, June 5, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Davis Prairie Cemetery, east of Marion with VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147 conducting the service. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Schreiner was born on March 11, 1925 in Evansville, Indiana to Jake Julian and Lucille Rebel (Brown) Schreiner. He married Geraldine Dawson on September 23, 1950 in Steeleville, Illinois, together they shared 55 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of Marion; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Deane Sprout of Indianapolis, Indiana, Karen and Michael Vanelli of Memphis, Tennessee and Tracy and Craig Flood of New Zealand; grandchildren, Andrew and Gabe Vanelli, Matthew and Tammy Sprout and Ezra Flood; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Zachary, Kyleigh and Nathaniel Sprout, and Kynlie and Jakob Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Maurice Schreiner. Mr. Schreiner was a retired coal miner having worked for Peabody Coal for 41 years. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific during World War II as a gunner on a dive bomber. He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed fishing and he loved life and he lived it to the fullest.
