Marion—Opal Marie Atwood, 92, of Marion passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:45 PM at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 from 12-1 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 1 PM with Reverend John Howat officiating; interment will be held in Spring Garden Cemetery following services. Memorial donations are suggested to the Diabetes Association; envelopes are available during the services or may be sent C/O Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959. Opal was born on April 25, 1919 in Dykersburg to Randall & Elsie (Absher) Manier. Survivors include her children, Hubert & Doris Mandrell of Crab Orchard, Jim & Reba Mandrell of Mt. Vernon and Violet Askew of Marion; grandchildren, Steve & Susan Mandrell, Bruce & Pam Mandrell, Treva Purnell, Kevin & Cheryl Askew, Bobby & Denine Fisher, Renee Mandrell, Timmy Ellis, Derick Ellis and Jessica Phillips; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Genieve Munsell of Johnston City and sister-in-law, Shirley Manier. Opal was preceded by her parents, son-in-law, Jim Askew; brothers, Claude Manier, Clyde Manier, James Manier, Lloyd Manier and Leon Manier and sister, Goldie Howat-Moore. Opal was a homemaker who enjoyed music, her friends and going to church.
