Marion- Norma Jo McWhorter Wright, 87, of Mesa, AZ , formerly of Marion, died, Monday, April 24, 2017 at American Orchards Assisted Living in Gilbert, AZ
Norma Jo was born on July 21, 1929 to William Joseph and Eva Jewell (Launnis) Haneline in Toledo, Ohio. She married Jack McWhorter on October 1, 1949 in Franklin, Kentucky. After Jack’s death in 1997, she later married Jerry Wright in Mesa, AZ on July 21, 2013 and he survives.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the Sun Valley Church of Christ in Mesa, AZ and was one of the first members of the Marion Church of Christ. She loved to read, watch horse racing and college basketball. She also enjoyed serving as the lunch monitor and playground supervisor at Jefferson School in Marion for many years.
Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Teah McWhorter of Pell City, Alabama; two daughters and sons-in-law Moya and Ken Swopes of Mesa, AZ and Marla and Mark Harvick of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack McWhorter, and her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Pastor Jim Faughn will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from Noon until time of service, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
