Myron Curtis Filkins, age 76, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the V.A. Community Living Center in Marion, Illinois.
Myron was born August 06, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas, a son of Fred and Rose (Jones) Filkins. Myron grew up in Kansas City, Mo and his family moved to Illinois later. He graduated from Rochelle High School, Rochelle, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Engineer and served in the Vietnam War. Myron enjoyed fishing and his aquariums. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller and later for Crosswalk Community Action Agency, which assisted low-income residents with weatherization of their homes. Myron was a member of the Community of Faith Church and loved participating in church activities and was involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Filkins (Dawnna) of Du Quoin, IL and Scott Filkins of Urbana, IL; two grandsons, Nicholas Struck of Du Quoin, IL and Colin Filkins of Urbana, IL; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Filkins of Du Quoin, IL, and one brother, Edward Johnston of Marion, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Filkins and Rose Johnston and one brother, Steven Filkins of Marion, IL.
No services are scheduled at this time. Blue Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
