Marion-Randall D. “Mack” McFarland, 63, of Marion, passed away at 2:00am on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Randall was born on October 6, 1949 at Lightner Hospital in Harrisburg, Illinois to William Carl and Elizabeth (Morrison) McFarland. He married Violet L. Adams on March 8, 1969 at Fairview Baptist Church in Creal Springs, Illinois.  She survives of Marion. Randall was a 1967 graduate of Vienna High School. He served his country honorably while enlisted in the US Army during Vietnam.  Once honorably discharged, he returned home and to work managing auto parts stores including Blankenship’s and Mo par in Marion.  During the 1980s he worked as a coal miner at Old Ben 21 before returning to jobs in parts and manufacturing including Reid Holcomb supply, UTA (Herrin), Napa (Johnston City), Car Quest (Marion) Cash’s Baker Chevrolet and Dust n Sons (Marion) before retiring. Randall enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, “Miss Goldie”, going out to eat, bird watching, listening to Oldie’s rock and roll, listening to the Grand Ole Opry  and most of all spending time with his friends and family. He loved his grandkids and was so proud to be Grandpa Mack. Known for his jokes, he made friends easily and rarely went somewhere (even out of state) that he didn’t meet someone he knew. Randall was a lifetime member of the VFW and was very proud to be a Veteran. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 44 years, Violet. Daughter and son in law Lorie and Matthew Deaton of Marion.  Son and daughter in law Randy S. and Jaclyn McFarland of West Frankfort. Four cherished grandchildren; Mallory Deaton , Jana McFarland, Haley McFarland and Sean McFarland. Brother and sister in law Larry and Veneta McFarland of Stonefort. Brother Jimmy McFarland of Oahu, HI. Sister and brother in law Carolyn and David Hoskins of Norris City. Sister in law Yvonne Adams of Creal Springs. Brother in law and sister in law Charles Dale and Kay Adams of Marion. Sister in law and brother in law Judy and Deon Davis of Creal Springs. Sister in law and brother in law Cheryl and John Will of Creal Springs. Several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Zoey” He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister- Debbie Allison. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.  Good friend Rev. Sam Lattuca will officiate. Military rites will be performed at the funeral home by the Marion American Legion and VFW Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard.   A time of gathering will begin at 1:00 PM and extend until time of service, Sunday August 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to DAV- Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ 1704 North Court/ Marion, IL   62959.
