Michael Lynn Gill

MARION Michael Lynn Gill, 67, of Marion departed this life October 1, 2011 at 8:40 AM at the VA Medical Center in Marion. According to the wishes of the family, Mr. Gill is to be cremated. There will be a memorial service at Blue Funeral Home in Marion on Thursday, October 6, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Scott Kallem officiating. There will be a time of gathering before the service, starting at 10 AM, at the funeral home on Thursday. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements. Michael was born on October 6, 1943 in West Frankfort to Alfred “Bruce” and Maxine (Modglin) Gill. He joined the Air Force in 1961 and moved to California where he met and married Rosemary Barcellos. To this union were born two daughters, Michele Gill Nicholas and Melissa Gill Duncan. Mike moved back to his Illinois hometown in 2000. Mr. Gill is survived by his mother, Maxine Gill Atkisson; daughter, Melissa & Josh Duncan; two half brothers, Gary Atkisson and Rick & Debbie Atkisson all of Marion; nieces and nephews, Jason & Kylla Atkisson, Brayden Atkisson, Rhylan Atkisson, Dylan Atkisson and Tara & Jeremy Midgett; aunts, Peggy & Glen Rendleman and Betty Atkisson; and uncle, Richard & Mary Modglin. Michael was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Harold & Mabel Gill; sister, Phyllis Whiteside; daughter, Michele Nichols and grandson, Caleb Duncan. Michael was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR fan and a philatelist (Stamp Collector).
