Michael Allen Phillips HERRIN-Michael Allen Phillips, 59, of Herrin passes away at 11:07 AM, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at St. Louis University Hopsital after a courageous battle against major brain surgery. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schafer officiating. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with the services. Burial will be at San Carlo Catholic Cemetery in Herrin. Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation; envelopes are available through the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Michael was born June 18, 1951 in Herrin to Al and Rose (Alecci) Phillips. He will be forever remembered by all of his friends in the racing world and by his devoted family members, Dom and Elizabeth Alecci, Lisa Alecci Harwell and Steve, Lynn Alecci Wardell and Rick, Dr. Carl Getto and Sheila, and Don Yewell. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike attended Herrin High School and John A Logan and then began his career in the motorcycle business world, where he was highly successful and the owner of numerous National Racing Awards. In the early 70’s to 1988 he raced motorcycles, winning 4 National Championships, from1989-2006 he raced in the National Modified Midgett Association, currently he was the owner of Phillips Pro Cycle in Carbondale.
