Melvin Lee Shadowens "Bojo", age 74, of Marion, Illinois, sadly left his family from complication due to heart failure, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home in Paulton.
Melvin was born March 16, 1949 in Marion, Illinois, a son of Walter and Louise (Harmon) Shadowens. Melvin grew up in Marion and attended Mission Ridge School. He worked for the City of Marion in the Water and Street Departments. He later worked for Vernell's Wrecker Service over 20 years as a Recovery Driver and he retired in 1997. He married Shirley M. Pogue on December 26, 1979. Melvin loved to go fishing and annually planted his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Shirley M. Shadowens of Marion, IL; three daughters, Pamela (Michael Williams) Holmes of Pittsburg, IL, Tena (Todd) DePauw of Johnson City, IL, and Theresa (Jason) Hampton of Benton, IL; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Ashley) Shadowens, Corey Beers, Christina Shadowens, Erica (Derek) Casey, Kelcie Beers, Makaela (Adam Carter) Hampton, and Jace Hampton; sixteen great grandchildren and two siblings, Shirley Gresham of Marion and Leon (Brenda) Shadowens of Creal Springs, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Louise Shadowens and four siblings, Eugene Shadowens, Ray Shadowens Jr., Lorine Kelley, and Michael Shadowens.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Rev. John Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Judes Children's Hospital.
