Marion-Martha Lee Maxwell, 92, died at 12:00 pm on Wednesday December 12, 2018 of natural causes at Sunshine Gardens Assisted Living in Marion, Illinois.
Martha was born on August 27, 1926 to Roy and Lydia Waters in Mt Olympus Indiana and married to Ival Maxwell on October 6, 1946. Together they shared 70+ years. Martha is survived by sons Larry Michael and wife Rhonda Maxwell of Batavia OH, James Stephen and wife Judith Maxwell of Marion IL, and daughter Susan Maria and husband Shaun Hampton of Carterville, IL.
Martha was most proud and loved her 7 Grandchildren, and 14 Great Grandchildren. Mike’s children include three sons – Ben of Batavia OH, Matt and wife Jennifer with sons Lucas and Levi of Cold Springs KY, and Josh and wife Jamie with son Jaxon and daughters Jocelynn and Jillian of West Chester OH. Steve’s daughter Kelly and husband Alex Parks with sons Luke, Logan, Leonidas, and daughter Shelby of Carterville, IL. Susan’s children include three daughters – Brooke and husband Curt Mayer with sons Landon and Cruz of Carterville IL, Brandi and husband Jeremy Siedler of Carbondale IL, and Ashley and husband Keith Bennett with sons Knox, Dominick, and newborn son Jasper of Christopher IL.
Martha enjoyed crafting, genealogy, computing, collecting, and gardening. Martha had many pets over the years and her cats brought her a great sense of joy. She had an independent spirit and held a driver’s license for most of her years. Martha loved the Lord and her bible was always near. She attended both the Baptist and Methodist churches throughout her life and was a regular tither until her final years.
Martha’s family sends a special “Thank You” to the doctors, nurses, workers, and volunteers at the Sunshine Gardens Assisted Living in Marion, IL for the care they gave her during final days. Hospice of Southern Illinois made her final days comfortable. Martha passed peacefully and without pain.
Martha’s husband Ival preceded her in death in April of 2017.
There will be no visitation and a private family celebration of life is planned for a later date. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
