Mrs. Carlson was born September 4, 1919 in Grayslake, Illinois to Barney & Mabel (Simpson) Jacobson. She lived in Grayslake on South Lake Street most of her life.
She graduated from Warren Township High School and married Robert A. Carlson, of Gurnee on December 24, 1937. Three children came from this union, Carol (Claude) Kellogg of Flat Rock, North Carolina, John (Marina) Carlson of Naples, Florida, and Dennis R. (Dawn) Carlson of Goreville.
She was a legal secretary for an Illinois Appellate Court Judge for most of her career and just prior to her retirement worked for the MacArthur Foundation in Chicago. When she retired she moved to Naples, Florida.
Her family was as important to her as she was to them. She loved to golf, cook, and spend time with her family. She invited adventure, as evidenced when she moved to downtown Chicago at age 52. She attended Goreville United Methodist Church after relocating to Southern Illinois in 2001.
Marie is survived by her 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her father; mother; sister, Norma McDonald; and brothers, Bart (who was killed on the Oklahoma at age 23 in the Pearl Harbor Attack) and Stanley, all preceded her in death.
