Lois Jean Burks

Lois Jean Burks, age 97, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Shawnee Senior Living Center in Herrin, Illinois.

Lois was born July 14, 1926 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of Clarence and Sarilda (Parsons) Durall. She married the love of her life, William L. Burks on September 06, 1942 in Jackson, MO. He preceded her in death in September of 1995.

Lois and Bill were blessed with two sons, William R. "Bill" Burks and Jeff Burks; three grandchildren: Amy Gentry (T. J.), Chad Burks (Holly), and Gina Bubanovich (Steve); nine great-grandchildren: Bryndle Burks, Jaxton Burks, Ireland Dillard (Stephen), Gwyneth Watson (Joel), Ashton Gentry, Jesse Gentry, Jude Gentry, Alyssa Bubanovich, and Cara Burcham; two great-great-grandchildren: Miles Watson and Darcy Dillard; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Jeff; her brother, Maurice Durall; and sisters, Kathlyn Durall Bell and Margaret Durall Hartwell.

Lois was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church in Marion, serving for many years as the pianist. She truly was a gifted piano player and loved to play for her church, family, and friends. Lois gave her all for her family, dedicating her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and devoted homemaker. She never met a stranger and always made a friend. Her smile, clever wit, wonderful sense of humor, and deep faith in God will always be cherished.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Dr. T.J. Gentry officiating and Bro. Danny Ward singing. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
