Leonard W. Cox MARION-Leonard W. Cox, 79, of Marion passed away at 8:02 AM, December 27, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Scott Kallem officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, December 29, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery with VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard conducting the services. Mr. Cox was born on January 11, 1929 in Herrin to John W. and Ida (Walker) Cox. He married Julia Bernette Stroud on April 15, 1953 in Herrin; together they shared 55 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Julia Bernette Cox of Marion; daughter, Cynthia Lynn Cox of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Gail Cox of Marion; daughter, Marshia Cox of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Ida Ellen and Kevin Ross of Thompsonville; grandchildren, Kendra and Michael Highley, Philecia Jo and Glen Faith, Amanda Bernette and Michael Throgmorton, Sean Ross and Sarah and Lucus Williams; great grandchildren, Hunter Throgmorton, Ray Faith, Ethan Highley, Riley Faith, Colton Throgmorton and Avery Highley; and sisters, Mabel Taylor and Helen Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Wayne Corley; and brothers, Paul Cox and Walter Cox. Mr. Cox was a member of Third Baptist Church in Marion. He retired for GTE after 18 years of service. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marion Elks Lodge 800 and American Legion Post 147.
