Leon G. Thompson MARION- Leon G. Thompson, 86, of Marion, passed away at 10:44 AM, Friday, November 5, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Blue Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2010. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church in Marion; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Leon was born on April 14, 1924 in Manco, Kentucky to George & Lula Belle (Jennings) Thompson. He married Mildred Hatmaker on November 4, 1944 in Bennetsville, South Carolina. She preceded him on May 15, 2009. Survivors include his children, Steven Lee Thompson, Victor Hollis & Suzanne Thompson all of Marion, Carla Lynn & Rick Michelena Of McAllen, TX; grandchildren, Jodi Lynn & David Gamble, Jane Ann & Larry Dean Pope all of Marion, Jenny Lee & Travis Felty of Pittsburg; great-grandson, Jacob Gamble; Great-Granddaughter on the way, Liv Malyn Pope; brothers, George Thompson & Don Thompson and sister, Billie Joe Perry. Leon was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters, Majel Davis, Emilee Lee & Landon Klasna and brother, R.V. Thompson. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Marion and a former United States Army Paratrooper during World War Two. Leon retired from GTE as a utility lineman and enjoyed motorcycles, listening to music and shooting his firearms.
